It is the sense of Congress that— the Government of China’s detention of Canadian nationals Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig appears to be a politically motivated act of retaliation for the Government of Canada’s detention of Meng Wanzhou, which is deeply troubling; the Government of China should— immediately release Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig; and guarantee due process for Canadian national Robert Schellenberg; and the United States must continue to support efforts by the Government of Canada in calling for the immediate release of Canadian citizens in the People's Republic of China.
