Sec. 607. Authorization of appropriations

There are authorized to be appropriated such sums as may be necessary, not to exceed $50,000,000, to carry out this title. The Attorney General shall make all reasonable efforts to control the administrative expenses of the prize competition so that the majority of the amounts made available under paragraph
(1)are used for the prize or prizes awarded to the winner or winners of the prize competition under section 603. The value of a prize awarded to a winner of the prize competition under section 603 may not exceed $1,000,000 without the approval of the Attorney General or the Director of the National Institute of Justice. A judge appointed under section 605 shall serve without pay, but may be reimbursed for actual and necessary traveling and subsistence expenses.
