Sec. 563. Staffing of Department of Defense Education Activity schools to maintain maximum student-to-teacher ratios

The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) shall staff elementary and secondary schools operated by the Activity so as to maintain, to the extent practicable, student-to-teacher ratios that do not exceed the maximum student-to-teacher ratios specified in subsection (b). The maximum student-to-teacher ratios specified in this subsection are the following: For each of grades kindergarten through 3, a ratio of 18 students to 1 teacher (18:1). For each of grades 4 through 12, a ratio equal to the average student-to-teacher ratio for such grade among all Department of Defense Education Activity schools during the 2019–2020 academic year.
The requirement to staff schools in accordance with subsection
(a)shall expire at the end of the 2023–2024 academic year of the Department of Defense Education Activity.
