The Attorney General may award grants to States and units of local government to assist in the collection of the information required to be reported under subsections
(h)and
(i)of section 501 of title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 ( 34 U.S.C. 10152 ), as added by sections 101 and 102 of this Act, respectively. A State or unit of local government seeking a grant under this section shall submit an application at such time, in such manner, and containing such information as the Attorney General may require. Each grant awarded under this section shall be not more than $1,000,000. For the purpose of making grants under this section, there is authorized to be appropriated, and there is appropriated, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, $112,000,000, to remain available until expended.
