Section 4305 of title 46, United States Code, is amended— in the section heading, by adding after and Equivalents ; Exemptions by striking If the Secretary and inserting the following: If the Secretary ; and by adding at the end the following: If the Secretary considers that recreational vessel safety will not be adversely affected, the Secretary may accept a substitution for associated equipment performance or other safety standards for a recreational vessel as required by this chapter, if the substitution provides an equivalent level of safety. .
