Section 531(c) of title 10, United States Code, is amended by striking the Secretary concerned and inserting the Secretary of Defense . Subsection
(b)of section 12203 of such title is amended by striking the Secretary concerned and inserting the Secretary of Defense . Such section 12203 is further amended— by redesignating subsection
(c)as subsection (d); and by inserting after subsection
(b)the following new subsection (c): For purposes of appointments under this section, an officer who receives an original appointment as a regular commissioned officer in a grade under section 531 of this title that is made on or after the date of the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020 shall be deemed also to have received an original appointment as a reserve commissioned officer in such grade. .
