Sec. 702. TRICARE payment options for retirees and their dependents

Section 1099 of title 10, United States Code, is amended— by redesignating subsection
(d)as subsection (e); and by inserting after subsection
(c)the following new subsection (d): A member or former member of the uniformed services, or a dependent thereof, eligible for medical care and dental care under section 1074(b) or 1076 of this title shall pay a premium for coverage under this chapter. To the maximum extent practicable, a premium owed by a member, former member, or dependent under paragraph
(1)shall be withheld from the retired, retainer, or equivalent pay of the member, former member, or dependent. In all other cases, a premium shall be paid in a frequency and method determined by the Secretary. . Section 1097a of title 10, United States Code, is amended— by striking subsection (c); and by redesignating subsections (d), (e), and
(f)as subsections (c), (d), and (e), respectively. The heading for section 1097a of such title is amended to read as follows: . The heading for section 1099 of such title is amended to read as follows: . The table of sections at the beginning of chapter 55 of such title is amended— by striking the item relating to section 1097a and inserting the following new item: 1097a. The amendments made by this section shall apply to health care coverage beginning on or after January 1, 2021.
