Sec. 522. Prohibition on reduction in the number of personnel assigned to duty with a service review agency

Section 1559(a) of title 10, United States Code, is amended— by striking December 31, 2019 and inserting December 31, 2025 ; by striking that agency until— and inserting that agency. ; and by striking subsections
(1)and (2). Not later than 180 days after the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of each military department shall submit a report to the Committees on Armed Services of the Senate and House of Representatives that details a plan to— reduce the backlog of applications before the service review agency of the military department concerned; and maintain the resources required to meet the timeliness standards for disposition of applications before the Corrections Boards under section 1557 of title 10, United States Code, not later than October 1, 2021. Each report under this subsection shall include the following: A description of the current backlog of applications before the service review agency of the military department concerned. The number of personnel required to meet the deadline described in paragraph (1)(B). The plan of the Secretary concerned to modernize the application and review system of the service review agency of the military department concerned.
