Section 1292(a)(2) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 ( Public Law 114–328 ; 22 U.S.C. 2751 note) is amended— in subparagraph (B)— in clause (iv), by striking and at the end; in clause (v), by striking the period at the end and inserting ; and ; and by adding at the end the following: a description of defense cooperation between the United States and India in the Western Indian Ocean, including— a description of military activities of the United States and India, separately, in the Western Indian Ocean; a description of military cooperation activities between the United States and India in the areas of humanitarian assistance, counter terrorism, counter piracy, maritime security, and other areas as the Secretary determines appropriate; a description of how the relevant geographic combatant commands coordinate their activities with the Indian military in the Western Indian Ocean; a description of the mechanisms in place to ensure the relevant geographic combatant commands maximize defense cooperation with India in the Western Indian Ocean; and areas of future opportunity to increase military engagement with India in the Western Indian Ocean. . by adding at the end the following:
In subparagraph (B)(vi): The term relevant geographic combatant commands means the United States Indo-Pacific Command, United States Central Command, and United States Africa Command. The term Western Indian Ocean means the area in the Indian Ocean extending from the west coast of India to the east coast of Africa. .
