Sec. 1086. Processes and procedures for notifications regarding special operations forces

Not later than 180 days after enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall establish and submit to the congressional defense committees processes and procedures for providing notifications to the committees regarding members of special operations forces, as identified in section 167(j) of title 10, United States Code. The processes and procedures established under subsection
(a)shall— clarify the roles and responsibilities of the Secretaries of the military departments, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict, and the Commander of United States Special Operations Command; provide guidance relating to the types of matters that would warrant congressional notification, including awards, reprimands, incidents, and any other matters the Secretary determines necessary; be consistent with the national security of the United States; be designed to protect sensitive information during an ongoing investigation; account for the privacy of members of the Armed Forces; and take in to account existing processes and procedures for notifications to the congressional defense committees regarding members of the conventional Armed Forces.
