The Secretary, in coordination with the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and in collaboration with the Director of the National Institutes of Health, the Director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Commissioner of Food and Drugs, and the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, shall support research and development on more efficient and effective strategies— for the surveillance of SARS–CoV–2 and COVID–19; for the testing and identification of individuals infected with COVID–19; and for the tracing of contacts of individuals infected with COVID–19.
