Section 3001(c)(5) of the Public Health Service Act ( 42 U.S.C. 300jj–11(c)(5) ) is amended by adding at the end the following: Beginning on January 1, 2021, the National Coordinator shall not certify electronic health records as health information technology that is in compliance with applicable certification criteria under this paragraph unless such technology is interoperable with the prescription drug monitoring programs of each State that, at the time of the request for such certification, has such a program. .
