Sec. 1752. Publicly available database of casualties of members of the Armed Forces

The Secretary of Defense shall publish on an appropriate publicly available website of the Department of Defense a database of all casualties of members of the Armed Forces of the United States that occur during military operations that take place during 1990 or any subsequent year. The Secretary shall ensure that the database published under subsection
(a)has the following capabilities: The capability of generating a machine readable report, to the extent practicable, through searches based on each, and any combination, of the casualty attributes. The capability of downloading individual records as the result of a search based on each, and any combination, of the casualty attributes. The Secretary shall develop a mechanism under which the next-of-kin (as determined by the Secretary) of any individual whose information would be included in the database required under subsection
(a)may elect to have such information excluded from the database. In this section, the term casualty attributes means each of the following with respect to the casualty of a member of the Armed Forces: The conflict in which the casualty occurred. The country where the casualty occurred. The attributes of the member of the Armed Forces, including— service; component; name; rank; date of death; and any other information as determined by the Secretary.
