Sec. 5105. National Academies artificial intelligence impact study on workforce

Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the National Science Foundation shall enter into a contract with the National Research Council of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to conduct a study of the current and future impact of artificial intelligence on the workforce of the United States across sectors. The study shall address— workforce impacts across sectors caused by the increased adoption of artificial intelligence, automation, and other related trends; workforce needs and employment opportunities generated by the increased adoption of artificial intelligence across sectors; opportunities for artificial intelligence to increase the labor force participation of traditionally underrepresented populations, including minorities, low-income populations, and persons with disabilities; research gaps and data needed to better understand and track both workforce impacts and workforce needs and opportunities generated by adoption of artificial intelligence systems across sectors; and recommendations to address the challenges and opportunities described in paragraphs (1), (2), (3), and (4).
In conducting the study, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine shall seek input from a wide range of stakeholders in the public and private sectors. The contract entered into under subsection
(a)shall require the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, not later than 2 years after the date of the enactment of this Act, to— submit to the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation of the Senate a report containing the findings and recommendations of the study conducted under subsection (a); and make a copy of such report available on a publicly accessible website.
