Section 691 of title 10, United States Code, is amended— in the heading, by striking and inserting two major regional contingencies ; the National Defense Strategy in subsection (a)— by striking a national defense strategy calling for and inserting the national defense strategy of ; and by striking to be able to successfully conduct two nearly simultaneous major regional contingencies ; in subsection (b), by striking paragraphs
(1)through
(4)and inserting the following new paragraphs: For the Army, 485,900. For the Navy, 347,800. For the Marine Corps, 181,200. For the Air Force, 333,475. ; and in subsection (e)— by inserting or the Secretary concerned after Secretary of Defense ; and by striking reduce a number specified in subsection
(b)by not more than 2 percent and inserting vary a number specified in subsection
(b)in accordance with section 115 of this title . The table of sections at the beginning of chapter 39 of such title is amended by striking the item relating to section 691 and inserting the following: 691. Permanent end strength levels to support the National Defense Strategy .
