Not later than February 1, 2022, the Secretary of the Navy shall designate an existing program executive officer from within the Department of the Navy to serve as the acquisition executive agent for autonomy who shall be the official within the Department with primary responsibility for the acquisition of autonomous technology. The officer designated as acquisition executive agent for autonomy shall carry out the responsibilities of such position in addition to the responsibilities otherwise assigned to such officer as a program executive officer. In this section, the term program executive officer has the meaning given that term in section 1737(a)(4) of title 10, United States Code.
