Sec. 404. Definitions

In this Act: The term eligible Federal loan means— a loan made, insured, or guaranteed under title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 ( 20 U.S.C. 1071 et seq.) (other than a loan described in subparagraph (B)) on or before the date of enactment of this Act; or a Federal Direct Stafford Loan issued under section 460B of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as added by title II of this Act, on a date that is not later than 9 months after the date of enactment of this Act. The term private education loan has the meaning given such term in section 140(a) of the Truth in Lending Act ( 15 U.S.C. 1650(a) ).
The term Secretary means the Secretary of Education. The term taxpayer has the meaning given such term in section 7701 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.
