Section 570 of Public Law 104–208 is amended— by amending subsection
(c)to read as follows: The President shall develop, in coordination with members of ASEAN and other likeminded countries, a comprehensive, multilateral strategy to bring about further democratic consolidation in Burma and improve human rights practices and the quality of life in Burma, including the development of a dialogue leading to genuine national reconciliation. ; and in subsection (d)— in the matter preceding paragraph (1), by striking six months and inserting year ; by redesignating paragraph
(3)as paragraph (7); and by inserting after paragraph
(2)the following new paragraphs: improvements in human rights practices; progress toward broad-based and inclusive economic growth; progress toward genuine national reconciliation; progress on improving the quality of life of the Burmese people, including progress relating to market reforms, living standards, labor standards, use of forced labor in the tourism industry, and environmental quality; and . The amendments made by paragraph
(1)shall take effect on the date of the enactment of this Act and apply with respect to the first report required under subsection
(d)of section 570 of Public Law 104–208 that is required after the date of the enactment of this Act. The following provisions of law are hereby repealed: Subsection
(b)of section 804 of Public Law 101–246 . Section 6 of Public Law 104–45 . Section 406 of Public Law 101–246 ( 22 U.S.C. 2414a ). Subsection
(c)of section 702 of Public Law 96–465 ( 22 U.S.C. 4022 ).
