Sec. 1641. Improvement to annual report on the modernization of the nuclear weapons enterprise

Section 1043(a) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 ( Public Law 112–81 ; 125 Stat. 1576), as most recently amended by section 1670 of the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 ( Public Law 115–232 ; 132 Stat. 2157), is further amended in paragraph
(1)by striking 2023 and inserting 2024 . Paragraph
(2)of such section is amended— by redesignating subparagraph
(G)as subparagraph (I); and by inserting after subparagraph
(F)the following new subparagraphs: For the 10-year period following the date of the report, an estimate of the relative percentage of acquisition costs of the military departments, and of the entire Department of Defense, represented by the costs to the Department of Defense to modernize and recapitalize the nuclear weapons enterprise. A plan covering the 25-year period following the date of the report that— covers the research and development and production relating to nuclear weapons that are being modernized or sustained, including with respect to— associated delivery systems or platforms that carry nuclear weapons; nuclear command and control systems; and facilities, infrastructure, and critical skills; and includes estimated timelines for such research and development and production, and the estimated acquisition and life cycle costs, including estimated cost ranges if necessary, to modernize or recapitalize each system. . Such section 1043, as amended by subsections
(a)and (b), is— transferred to chapter 24 of title 10, United States Code; inserted after section 492; redesignated as section 492a; and amended— in the enumerator, by striking SEC. and inserting § ; and in the section heading— by striking the period at the end; and by conforming the typeface and typestyle, including capitalization, to the typeface and typestyle as used in the section heading of section 491 of such title. The table of sections at the beginning of chapter 24 of title 10, United States Code, is amended by inserting after the item relating to section 492 the following new item: 492a. Annual report on the plan for the nuclear weapons stockpile, nuclear weapons complex, nuclear weapons delivery systems, and nuclear weapons command and control system. .
