Sec. 336. Report on effects of increased automation of defense industrial base on manufacturing workforce

Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to Congress a report on the effects of the increased automation of the defense industrial base over the ten-year period beginning on the date that is 30 days after the date of the enactment of this Act. Such report shall include, for the period covered by the report— an estimate of the number of jobs in the United States manufacturing workforce expected to be eliminated due to automation in the defense sector; an analysis describing any new types of jobs that are expected to be established as a result of an increasingly automated process, including an estimate of the number of these types of jobs that are expected to be created; an analysis of the potential threats to the national security of the United States that are unique to the automation of the defense industry; a strategy to assist in providing workforce training and transition preparation for workers who may lose manufacturing jobs in the defense industry due to automation; a description of any training necessary for workers affected by automation to more easily transition to new types of jobs within the defense manufacturing industry; and any actions taken, or planned to be taken, by the Department of Defense to assist in worker transition.
