Sec. 40010. Colonias state of good repair grant program

The Secretary of Transportation shall establish a state of good repair surface transportation grant program to provide grants that increase the state of good repair for surface infrastructure in and around colonias. The following entities are eligible to receive a grant under this section: States. Metropolitan planning organizations. Units of local government. Federal land management agencies. Tribal governments. In this section, the term colonia means any identifiable community that— is in the State of Arizona, California, New Mexico, or Texas; is in the area of the United States within 150 miles of the border between the United States and Mexico, except that the term does not include any standard metropolitan statistical area that has a population exceeding 1,000,000; is determined to be a colonia on the basis of objective criteria, including lack of potable water supply, lack of adequate sewage systems, and lack of decent, safe, and sanitary housing; and was in existence as a colonia before November 28, 1990.
There are authorized to be appropriated $10,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2022 through 2025 to carry out this section.
