Sec. 1640. Study on effectiveness of suicide prevention nets and barriers for structures other than bridges

The Comptroller General of the United States shall conduct a study to identify— the types of structures, other than bridges, that attract a high number of individuals attempting suicide-by-jumping; the characteristics that distinguish structures identified under paragraph
(1)from similar structures that do not attract a high number of individuals attempting suicide-by-jumping; the types of nets or barriers that are effective at reducing suicide-by-jumping with respect to the structures identified under paragraph (1); methods of reducing suicide-by-jumping with respect to the structures identified under paragraph
(1)other than nets and barriers; quantitative measures of the effectiveness of the nets and barriers identified under paragraph (3); quantitative measures of the effectiveness of the additional methods identified under paragraph (4); the entities that typically install the nets and barriers identified under paragraph (3); and the costs of the nets and barriers identified under paragraph (3). Not later than 1 year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Comptroller General shall submit to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Committee on Energy and Commerce of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions and the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation of the Senate a report on the results of the study conducted under subsection (a).
