Section 509A of title 28, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following: Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this subsection, the Attorney General shall establish a unit within the counterespionage section of the National Security Division of the Department of Justice with responsibility for the enforcement of laws against suspected operatives or unregistered agents of foreign governments. The unit established under subsection
(c)is authorized to— take appropriate legal action against individuals suspected of violating subsection
(a)or
(b)of section 951 of title 18; and coordinate any such legal action with the United States Attorney for the relevant jurisdiction. The Attorney General shall, as appropriate, consult with the Director of National Intelligence, the Secretary of Homeland Security, and the Secretary of State. .
