In this section— the term Department means the Department of Housing and Urban Development; and the term public housing agency has the meaning given the term in section 3(b) of the United States Housing Act of 1937 ( 42 U.S.C. 1437a(b) ). Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development shall submit to Congress a report that includes— an overview of existing policies and enforcement of the Department, including public outreach, relating to lead-based paint hazard prevention and abatement; recommendations and best practices for the Department, public housing agencies, and landlords for improving lead-based paint hazard prevention standards and Federal lead prevention and abatement policies to protect the environmental health and safety of children, including within housing receiving assistance from or occupied by families receiving housing assistance from the Department; and recommendations for legislation to improve lead-based paint hazard prevention and abatement.
