Section 9(b) of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 ( 52 U.S.C. 20508(b) ) is amended— in paragraph (1), by inserting except as provided in paragraph
(2)before may require ; by redesignating paragraphs (2), (3), and (4), as paragraphs (3), (4), and (5), respectively; and by inserting after paragraph
(1)the following new paragraph: may not require more than the last 4 digits of an applicant's social security number; .
