Sec. 598. Chaplaincies of the Armed Forces

The purposes of the chaplaincies of the Armed Forces are— to accommodate the religious needs of members of the Armed Forces; to provide religious and pastoral care to members of the Armed Forces; and to provide advice to commanders of the Armed Forces on the complexities of religion with regard to the respective commander’s personnel and mission, as appropriate. Each chaplain of the Armed Forces shall be— a member of a religious organization; of sufficient education and ecclesiastical qualification; and qualified to conduct religious observances or ceremonies.
