Sec. 571. Expansion of United States Air Force Institute of Technology enrollment authority to include civilian employees of the homeland security industry

Subsection
(b)of section 9314a of title 10, United States Code, is amended to read as follows: In this section, the term covered private sector employee means— an individual employed by a private firm that is engaged in providing to the Department of Defense significant and substantial defense-related systems, products, or services; or an individual employed by a private firm in one of the critical infrastructure sectors identified in Presidential Policy Directive 21 (Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience). A covered private sector employee admitted for instruction at the United States Air Force Institute of Technology remains eligible for such instruction only so long as the person remains employed by the same firm. . Section 9314a of title 10, United States Code, is amended— in subsection (a)— in paragraph (1)— by striking defense industry employees described in subsection
(b)and inserting a covered private sector employee ; and by striking Any such defense industry employee and inserting A covered private sector employee ; and in paragraph (2), by striking defense industry employees and inserting covered private sector employees ; and in paragraph (3), by striking defense industry employee both places it appears and inserting covered private sector employee ; in subsection (c)— by striking Defense industry employees and inserting A covered private sector employee ; and by striking defense industry employees and inserting covered private sector employees ; in subsection (d)(1), by striking defense industry employees and inserting a covered private sector employee ; and in subsection (f), by striking defense industry employees and inserting covered private sector employees . Section 9314a of title 10, United States Code, is further amended— in subsection (a)(1), by striking a defense focused and inserting a defense-focused or homeland security-focused ; and in subsection (d)— in paragraph (1), by inserting or homeland security after and defense ; and in paragraph (2), by inserting before the period at the end the following: or the Department of Homeland Security, as applicable . The heading of section 9314a of title 10, United States Code, is amended to read as follows: . The table of sections at the beginning of chapter 901 of title 10, United States Code, is amended by striking the item relating to section 9314a and inserting the following new item: 9314a.
