Sec. 1052. Report on Department of Defense arctic capability and resource gaps

Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to the congressional defense committees a report regarding necessary steps the Department of Defense is undertaking to resolve arctic security capability and resource gaps. The report under subsection
(a)shall include an analysis of each of the following: The infrastructure needed to ensure national security in the arctic region. Any shortfalls in observation, remote sensing capabilities, ice prediction, and weather forecasting. Any shortfalls of the Department in navigational aids. Any additional, necessary high-latitude electronic and communications infrastructure requirements. Any gaps in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance coverage and recommendations for additional intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities Any shortfalls in personnel recovery capabilities. Any additional capabilities the Secretary determines should be incorporated into future Navy surface combatants. The report under subsection
(a)shall be submitted in unclassified form, but may include a classified annex.
