Sec. 1038. Transfer of funds to World War I Centennial Commission

The Secretary of Defense may transfer to the World War I Centennial Commission, from amounts described in subsection (b), such amount as the Secretary and the Chair of the World War I Centennial Commission consider appropriate to assist the Commission in carrying out activities under paragraphs
(2)through
(5)of section 5(a) of the World War I Centennial Commission Act ( Public Law 112–272 ; 36 U.S.C. prec. 101 note) after fiscal year 2017. Funds transferred pursuant to subsection
(a)shall be maintained in a specially designated account and may not be obligated or expended for the designation, establishment, or enhancement of a memorial or commemorative work by the World War I Centennial Commission. The funds transferrable by the Secretary pursuant to subsection
(a)shall be derived from amounts authorized to be appropriated for fiscal year 2018 for Civil Military Programs as provided in section 4301 of this Act. Any amounts transferred to the World War I Centennial Commission pursuant to subsection
(a)shall be treated as a gift to the Commission for purposes of sections 6(g) and 7(f) of the World War I Centennial Commission Act. The total amount provided by the Secretary pursuant to subsection
(a)shall not exceed $5,000,000. In this section, the term World War I Centennial Commission means the Commission established by section 4 of the World War I Centennial Commission Act.
