Section 3 of the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 ( 7 U.S.C. 2012 ) is amended by striking subsection
(f)and inserting the following: The term certification period means the period for which a household shall be eligible to receive benefits. Except as provided in subparagraph (C), the certification period shall not exceed 12 months. A State agency shall have at least 1 contact with each certified household every 12 months. The certification period may be for a duration of— not more than 24 months if each adult household member is elderly or disabled; or not more than 36 months if— each adult household member is elderly or disabled; and the household of the adult household member has no earned income at the time of certification. The limits under this paragraph may be extended until the end of any transitional benefit period established under section 11(s). .
