Section 1442(e)(7) of the Safe Drinking Water Act ( 42 U.S.C. 300j–1(e)(7) ) is amended by striking Tribes and inserting Tribes, including grants to provide training and operator certification services under section 1452(i)(5) . Section 1452(i) of the Safe Drinking Water Act ( 42 U.S.C. 300j–12(i) ) is amended— in paragraph (1)— in the first sentence, by striking Tribes and Alaska Native villages and inserting Tribes, Alaska Native villages, and, for the purpose of carrying out paragraph (5), intertribal consortia or tribal organizations, ; and in the second sentence, by striking The grants and inserting Except as otherwise provided, the grants ; and by adding at the end the following:
The Administrator may use funds made available under this subsection and section 1442(e)(7) to make grants to intertribal consortia or tribal organizations for the purpose of providing operations and maintenance training and operator certification services to Indian Tribes to enable public water systems that serve Indian Tribes to achieve and maintain compliance with applicable national primary drinking water regulations. Intertribal consortia or tribal organizations eligible for a grant under subparagraph
(A)are intertribal consortia or tribal organizations that— as determined by the Administrator, are the most qualified and experienced to provide training and technical assistance to Indian Tribes; and the Indian Tribes find to be the most beneficial and effective. .
