Section 1442(a)(1) of the Safe Drinking Water Act ( 42 U.S.C. 300j–1(a)(1) ) is amended— in subparagraph (D), by striking ; and and inserting a semicolon; by striking the period at the end of subparagraph
(E)and inserting ; and ; and by adding at the end the following new subparagraph: innovative water technologies (including technologies to improve water treatment to ensure compliance with this title and technologies to identify and mitigate sources of drinking water contamination, including lead contamination). . Section 1442 of the Safe Drinking Water Act ( 42 U.S.C. 300j-1 ) is amended— in the heading for subsection (e), by inserting after to small public water systems ; and assistance by adding at the end the following new subsection: The Administrator may provide technical assistance to public water systems to facilitate use of innovative water technologies. There are authorized to be appropriated to the Administrator for use in providing technical assistance under paragraph
(1)$10,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2017 through 2021. . Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of the Water and Waste Act of 2016 , and not less frequently than every 5 years thereafter, the Administrator shall report to Congress on— the amount of funding used to provide technical assistance under section 1442(f) of the Safe Drinking Water Act to deploy innovative water technologies; the barriers impacting greater use of innovative water technologies; and the cost-saving potential to cities and future infrastructure investments from innovative water technologies.
