Paragraph
(8)of section 138(b) of title 10, United States Code, is amended to read as follows: One of the Assistant Secretaries is the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Information (Chief Information Officer), who shall report to the Secretary and the Deputy Secretary of Defense. The Assistant Secretary shall be the principal advisor to the Secretary and have responsibility for all defense cyber and space policy, information network defense, policies and standards governing information technology systems, and related information security activities of the Department, including oversight of the Defense Information Systems Agency or any successor organization. . Subsection
(b)of section 132a of such title is amended to read as follows: The Under Secretary also serves as the Performance Improvement Officer of the Department of Defense. . The amendment made by paragraph
(1)shall take effect on February 1, 2017, immediately after the coming into effect of the amendment made by section 901(a)(1) of the Carl Levin and Howard P. Buck McKeon National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015 ( Public Law 113–291 ; 128 Stat. 35462), to which the amendment made by paragraph
(1)relates.
