Sec. 727. Authority to enter into health care contracts with certain entities to provide care under the TRICARE program

The Secretary of Defense may enter into contracts to provide health care to covered beneficiaries, including behavioral health care, with any of the following: The Department of Veterans Affairs. An Indian tribe or tribal organization that is party to the Alaska Native Health Compact with the Indian Health Service. An Indian tribe or tribal organization that has entered into a contract with the Indian Health Service to provide health care in rural Alaska or other locations in the United States.
The term covered beneficiary has the meaning given that term in section 1072 of title 10, United States Code. The terms Indian tribe and tribal organization have the meaning given those terms in section 4 of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act ( 25 U.S.C. 450b ).
