Sec. 235. Comprehensive study on seriously injured veterans and their caregivers

During the period specified in subsection (d), the Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall provide for the conduct by an independent entity of a comprehensive study on the following: Veterans who have incurred a serious injury or illness, including a mental health injury or illness. Individuals who are acting as caregivers for veterans. The comprehensive study required by subsection
(a)shall include the following with respect to each veteran included in such study: The health of the veteran and, if applicable, the impact of the caregiver of such veteran on the health of such veteran. The employment status of the veteran and, if applicable, the impact of the caregiver of such veteran on the employment status of such veteran. The financial status and needs of the veteran. The use by the veteran of benefits available to such veteran from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Such other information as the Secretary considers appropriate. The Secretary shall enter into a contract with an appropriate independent entity to conduct the study required by subsection (a). The period specified in this subsection is the one-year period beginning on the date that is four years after the date specified in section 1720G(a)(2)(B)(i) of title 38, United States Code, as amended by section 231(a)(1) of this Act. Not later than 30 days after the end of the period specified in subsection (d), the Secretary shall submit to the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs of the Senate and the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs of the House of Representatives a report on the results of the study required by subsection (a).
