In this Act: The term Chief Executive Officer means the Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation for National and Community Service appointed under section 193 of the National and Community Service Act of 1990 ( 42 U.S.C. 12651c ). The term eligible entity means— an elementary school or secondary school; or any of the following entities that serve low-performing schools: Public or private nonprofit organizations, including faith-based and other community organizations. Local educational agencies.
Institutions of higher education. Government entities within States. Indian Tribes. Labor organizations. The term low-performing school means an elementary school or secondary school that is identified under section 1116 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 ( 20 U.S.C. 6316 ). The term national service participant means an individual described under part III of the National and Community Service Act of 1990 ( 42 U.S.C. 12591 et seq. ). The term School Turnaround Corps project means a project carried out by an eligible entity that is a permissible use of funds for a grant under this Act.
The term Secretary means the Secretary of Education.
