Section 502(c) ( 45 U.S.C. 822(c) ) is amended— in paragraph (1), by inserting , including projects for the installation of a positive train control system (as defined in section 20157(i) of title 49, United States Code) after public safety ; by redesignating paragraphs

(3)and (2), respectively; in paragraph (5), by inserting or after chapter 227 of title 49 section 135 of title 23 ; by redesignating paragraphs

(7)through (9), respectively; and by inserting after paragraph
(5)the following: improve railroad stations and passenger facilities and increase transit-oriented development; . Section 502(h) ( 45 U.S.C. 822(h) ) is amended— in paragraph (2), by inserting , if applicable after project ; and by adding at the end the following: For a project described in subsection (b)(1)(E), the Secretary shall require the applicant, obligor, or other loan party, in addition to the interest required under subsection (e), to provide the sponsor of the intercity passenger rail service or its designee, a fee or payment in an amount determined appropriate by the Secretary to provide an equitable share of project revenue to support the capital or operating costs of the routes serving the passenger rail station or multimodal station where the development is located. .
