Section 401(b) of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 ( 8 U.S.C. 1611(b) ) is amended— in paragraph (2), by adding at the end the following: For purposes of this paragraph, the term ; and alien who is lawfully present in the United States means an alien who has been admitted to the United States, and whose period of lawful admission has not expired, and does not include an alien who is present in the United States pursuant to a grant of parole under section 212(d)(5) of the Immigration and Nationality Act ( 8 U.S.C. 1182(d)(5) ). in paragraph (3), by adding at the end the following:
For purposes of this paragraph, the term . alien who is lawfully present in the United States has the meaning given such term in paragraph (2).
