Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Commerce shall provide to Congress a report on feasibility and benefits of reorganizing portions of the Department to better coordinate and support its space-related economic and regulatory activities. Objectives of such reorganization include— stronger Department of Commerce leadership in interagency functions where space commerce activities are either regulated or reviewed; and bringing the benefits of space-based economic activities more directly to the attention of the Secretary.
Offices to be considered for this reorganization are the Office of Commercial Remote Sensing Regulatory Affairs, the Office of Space Commerce, those portions of the International Trade Administration Bureau of Industry and Security that may have unique space-related functions, and other offices that the Secretary determines to be appropriate. Prior to the submission of the report to Congress, the Secretary shall allow for the Advisory Committee on Commercial Remote Sensing to comment on the draft report.
Such comments shall be transmitted to Congress along with the report.
