Section 602(b)(2)(A)(ii)(I) of the Afghan Allies Protection Act of 2009 ( 8 U.S.C. 1101 note) is amended to read as follows: by, or on behalf of, the United States Government, in the case of an alien submitting an application for Chief of Mission approval pursuant to subparagraph
(D)before the date of the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017; or in the case of an alien submitting an application for Chief of Mission approval pursuant to subparagraph
(D)on or after the date of the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017, in a capacity that required the alien— to serve as an interpreter or translator for personnel of the Department of State or the United States Agency for International Development in Afghanistan while traveling away from United States embassies or consulates with such personnel; to serve as an interpreter or translator for United States military personnel in Afghanistan while traveling off-base with such personnel; or to perform sensitive and trusted activities for United States military personnel stationed in Afghanistan; or . Clauses
(i)and
(ii)of section 602(b)(3)(F) of such Act are each amended by striking December 31, 2016; and inserting December 31, 2017; . Section 602(b)(14) of such Act is amended— by striking Not later than 60 days after the date of the enactment of this paragraph, and inserting Not later than December 31, 2016, and annually thereafter through January 31, 2021, ; and in subparagraph (A)(i), by striking under this section; and inserting under subclause
(I)or (II)(bb) of paragraph (2)(A)(ii); .
