Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall— designate a senior official already serving within the Department of Defense as the official with principal responsibility for the development and demonstration of directed energy weapons for the Department; and set forth the responsibilities of that senior official with respect to such programs.
