Sec. 146. Standardization of 5.56mm rifle ammunition

If, on the date that is 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Army and the Marine Corps are each using different variants of 5.56mm rifle ammunition, the Secretary of Defense shall, on such date, submit to the congressional defense committees a report explaining the reasons that the Army and the Marine Corps are using different variants of such ammunition. Not later than one year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall ensure that the Army and the Marine Corps are using the same variant of 5.56mm rifle ammunition. Subsection
(b)shall not apply in a case in which the Secretary of Defense— determines that a state of emergency requires the Army and the Marine Corps to use different variants of 5.56mm rifle ammunition; and certifies to the congressional defense committees that such a determination has been made.
