In this Act: The term covered law enforcement agency means— the Forest Service Law Enforcement and Investigations unit; and the Bureau of Land Management Office of Law Enforcement. The term Federal land means— any land and interest in land owned by the United States within a State and included within the National Forest System, including the National Grasslands; and the public lands (as defined in section 103(e) of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 ( 43 U.S.C. 1702(e) ). The term Secretary concerned means— the Secretary of Agriculture, with respect to Federal land described in subparagraph
(A)of paragraph (2); and the Secretary of the Interior, with respect to Federal land described in subparagraph
(B)of paragraph (2). The term State means each of the several States and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. The term unit of local government means— any city, county, township, town, borough, parish, village, or other general purpose political subdivision of a State; or an Indian tribe which performs law enforcement or emergency response functions as determined by the Secretary of the Interior.
