The Chief of the Border Patrol shall direct agents of the Border Patrol to patrol as close to the physical land border as possible, consistent with the accessibility to such areas. The Chief of the Border Patrol shall deploy the maximum practicable number of Border Patrol agents to forward operating bases along the southern land border of the United States to meet the requirements of this section.
