Sec. 2. Reports on current border security status

The Secretary of Homeland Security shall submit to the appropriate congressional committees, the Border Security Verification Commission (BSVC), and the Government Accountability Office reports that assess and describe the state of situational awareness and operational control along the northern and southern land borders of the United States. Such reports shall include an identification of the high traffic areas and the unlawful border crossing effectiveness rate for each sector along the northern and southern land borders of the United States that are within the responsibility of the Border Patrol. The reports required under paragraph
(1)shall be submitted as follows: The first such report shall be submitted by not later than 30 days after the date of the enactment of this Act. During the two-year period beginning on the date of the submission of such first report, such reports shall be submitted every 180 days. During the period beginning on the date that is 180 days after the date of the submission of last report under subparagraph (B), such reports shall be submitted every 360 days. Not later than 90 days after receiving the initial report required under subsection (a), the Comptroller General of the United States shall report to the appropriate congressional committees and the BSVC regarding the verification of the data and methodology used to determine high traffic areas and the unlawful border crossing effectiveness rate.
