Sec. 9409. Miscellaneous authorization of appropriations

There are authorized to be appropriated to the Secretary such sums as necessary to conduct a study of railroad operations that block highway-rail grade crossings, including the severity, frequency, and other characteristics of such blockages, to remain available until expended. For the purpose of this paragraph the term highway-rail grade crossing has the definition given in section 20153(a) of title 49, United States Code. There are authorized to be appropriated to the Secretary such sums as necessary to conduct a study of track electrification and the development of standards for track electrification, to remain available until expended.
There are authorized to be appropriated to the Secretary such sums as necessary to conduct a study of whether train length correlates with the severity and frequency of train derailments, to remain available until expended.
