Section 514(a)(5) of title 23, United States Code, is amended to read as follows: improvement of the ability of the United States to respond to security related or other manmade emergencies and natural disasters; . Section 514(a) of title 23, United States Code, is amended by inserting the following after paragraph (5): enhancement of the Nation’s freight system and support to freight policy goals by conducting heavy duty vehicle demonstration activities, and accelerating adoption of ITS applications in freight operations; and .
Section 514(a) of title 23, United States Code, is further amended by inserting the following at the end: enabling and accelerating the development and deployment of automated vehicles in all modes of surface transportation. .
