Section 127(a) of title 23, United States Code, as amended by this Act, is further amended by adding at the end the following: With respect to an emergency vehicle, the following weight limits shall apply in lieu of the maximum and minimum weight limits specified in this subsection: 24,000 pounds on a single steering axle. 33,500 pounds on a single drive axle. 62,000 pounds on a tandem axle. A maximum gross vehicle weight of 86,000 pounds. In this paragraph, the term emergency vehicle means a vehicle designed— to be used under emergency conditions to transport personnel and equipment; and to support the suppression of fires and mitigation of other hazardous situations. .
