Sec. 1632. Designation of Department of Defense entity responsible for acquisition of critical cyber capabilities

Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall, for each critical cyber capability described in paragraph (2), designate an entity of the Department of Defense to be responsible for the acquisition of the critical cyber capability. The critical cyber capabilities described in this paragraph are all of the cyber capabilities that the Secretary considers critical to the mission of the Department of Defense, including the following:
The Unified Platform. A persistent cyber training environment. A cyber situational awareness and battle management system. Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall submit to the congressional defense committees a report on the designations made under subsection (a). The report required by paragraph
(1)shall include the following: Identification of each designation made under subsection (a). Estimates of the funding requirements and acquisition timelines for each critical cyber capability for which a designation was made under subsection (a). An explanation of whether critical cyber capabilities could be acquired more quickly with changes to acquisition authorities. Such recommendations as the Secretary may have for legislation or administrative action to improve the acquisition of, or acquire more quickly, the critical cyber capabilities for which designations are made under subsection (a).
