Chapter 24 of title 10, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new section: The Secretary of the Air Force shall designate a senior acquisition official of the Air Force to be responsible for ensuring the procurement and integration of the nuclear command, control, and communication systems of the Air Force. The Secretary shall designate an official of the Air Force to be responsible for— formulating an integrated policy for the nuclear command, control, and communications systems of the Air Force that includes long-term requirements to satisfy the requirements of the Department of Defense for nuclear command, control, and communications; and ensuring that such policy is integrated across all Air Force systems using nuclear command, control, and communications systems. .
The table of sections at the beginning of chapter 24 of title 10, United States Code, is amended by inserting after the item relating to section 498 the following new item: 499. Designation of Air Force officials to be responsible for policy on and procurement of nuclear command, control, and communications systems. . The Secretary of the Air Force shall— designate the officials required by section 499 of title 10, United States Code, as added by subsection (a)(1), not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act; and promptly notify the congressional defense committees of such designation.
